Summer Car Maintenance Tips

The summer heat, long road trips, and stop-and-go traffic will take their toll on your Hyundai. Add in the effects of your car staying put for throughout the winter, and you could be poised for a summertime breakdown. Before you hit the road this summer, it’s important to lessen your odds of mechanical failure through routine maintenance. Our St. Louis Park Hyundai service center is here with some summer car maintenance tips to ensure your vehicle stays in tip-top shape throughout the season and beyond.
Air Conditioning
If your cabin isn’t cooling down as much as it should, you may need to have your system examined by one of our qualified technicians. Newer models have cabin air filters that clean the air entering the heating and air conditioning system. Be sure to check your Hyundai’s owner’s manual for your replacement interval.
Cooling System
The greatest cause of a summer breakdown is overheating. We recommend your cooling system be completely flushed and refilled about every 24 months. The level, condition, and concentration of the coolant should be checked periodically.
Have Your Oil Changed
You should have your oil and filter changed about every 3,000 miles. If you’re planning a long trip or you anticipate a lot of driving this summer, we recommend changing your oil to ensure a maintenance-free summer.
Windshield Wipers
A dirty windshield causes eye fatigue and can pose a safety hazard. Replace worn blades and get plenty of windshield washer solvent.
Tires
It’s important to have your tires rotated every 5,000 miles and check your tire pressure at least once a month. Don’t forget to check your spare as well and be sure the jack is in good condition. Examine tires for tread life, uneven wearing, and cupping; check the sidewalls for cuts and nicks. An alignment is warranted if there’s uneven tread wear or if your vehicle pulls to one side.
