What is Regenerative Braking?

So, what exactly is Hyundai regenerative braking? Used in both hybrid and all-electric vehicles, Hyundai regenerative braking works to conserve energy by storing the kinetic energy generated through braking by converting it into electric power. This is done whenever you press on the brakes on Richfield roads. To put it simply, Hyundai’s regenerative braking allows for optimal range by ensuring no energy goes to waste.

Hyundai Regenerative Braking Levels 

What’s particularly unique about models like the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 is that they provide different Hyundai regenerative braking levels, which are split up into three categories.

 

  • High: When set to high, your Hyundai is able to harness more kinetic energy during deceleration. And with the i-Pedal mode, using the brake pedals isn’t even necessary. Just take your foot off the accelerator to slow down.
  • Low: Out of the Hyundai regenerative braking levels, you get the least amount of energy when you select the “Low” setting. Though, switching to low is great when you want longer and smoother coasting when you take your foot off the accelerator. 
  • Smart: This Hyundai regenerative braking level does all the work for you. Set the system to Auto, and this smart setting adjusts regenerative braking levels based on the calculated speed and distance of the vehicle ahead of you on Minnetonka roads. 

 

You can adjust the Hyundai regenerative braking levels by using the paddles mounted on the steering wheel. Depending on the model and year, you may also have the option to adjust the levels via the “Eco Vehicle” tab on the vehicle’s infotainment touchscreen, or on the lower bar of the digital instrument cluster display.
